Glottalisation and flaps

In casual StHE speech, secondary or unstressed segments, particularly word endings, are accorded even less stress than in standard varieties like RP. This affects the pronunication of intervocalic [t] in words like ‘sitting’, which is realized as a glottal stop with the last syllable reduced, approximating [sɪʔn]. In words like ‘letter’, [t] is flapped, resulting in [lεɾə].
