The short vowels GOAT

The GOAT diphthong has a very open and central starting position. The second element usually corresponds to a pronunciation of the GOOSE vowel. However, for some speakers, especially in the word no or where the vowel falls under the tonic syllable, the final element is becoming unrounded, giving a pronunciation like [ɐɪ] or [ɐɨ].
