A filter to select or block out experiences

The teaching assistant may direct the learner towards or away from certain activities because of his or her prior experience with the learner. For example, taking the learner away from group activities, because the learner has failed previously at them. Equally, the TA might direct the learner to use the computer for a writing task because the learner finds it difficult to write by hand.
