The difference between the Shiites and the Sunnis, in short, is that the Shiites believe in the Imamate of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali, peace be upon him, after the Messenger (Peace be upon him and his progeny), without separation - according to the mental and textual evidence mentioned in their context - then they see the Imamate in the eleven infallible ones - who were stipulated by the Prophet (Peace be upon him and his progeny) are from the children of Ali, peace be upon him - and this is the main difference between them.
Then there are other differences in the understanding of Sharia, and the fundamentals of religion and its branches, all of which are based on taking from the knowledge of Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them.
But Ahl al-Sunnah, since they were prevented from following the line of the Imamate, became empty-handed of this divine knowledge, and on the contrary, they took their knowledge from specific people - such as the imams of the four schools of thought - from whose knowledge and sayings have no guarantee of the truth, then {Say: 'It is Allah alone Who guides to the truth.' Then, who is more worthy to be followed - He Who guides to the truth, or he who cannot find the right way unless others guide him to it? What is wrong with you? How ill do you judge!.” [Yunus: 35]
