It is narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi in Al-Amālī, through a reliable chain of transmission, from Al-Hasan ibn Ali (peace be upon him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
"In Paradise there is a spring sweeter than honey, softer than butter, cooler than snow, and more fragrant than musk. It contains a clay from which Allah, the Almighty, created us, and from it He created our followers (Shi'a). Whoever is not from that clay is neither from us nor from our followers."
He (peace be upon him) also said:
"I heard my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), say: 'I was created from the Light of Allah, the Almighty. My household was created from my light, and those who love them were created from their light, while the rest of creation will be in the Fire.'"
In the book Faḍā'il al-Shīʿah, it is narrated through a chain of transmission from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said:
We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) when a man approached and asked:
"O Messenger of Allah, tell me about the saying of Allah to Satan:
'Were you arrogant, or were you among the exalted ones?' (Qur'an 38:75).
Who are these exalted ones who are above the angels?"
The Messenger of Allah replied:
"They are myself, Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn. We were beneath the canopy of the Throne glorifying Allah, and the angels glorified Him by following our glorification two thousand years before Allah created Adam. When Allah created Adam, He commanded the angels to prostrate before him, but He did not command us to do so. All the angels prostrated except Satan, who refused. Then Allah said:
'Were you arrogant, or were you among the exalted ones?' (Qur'an 38:75),
meaning these five whose names were written upon the canopy of the Throne."
In Baṣā'ir al-Darajāt, through a reliable chain from Muhammad al-Baqir and Ja'far al-Sadiq (peace be upon them), it is narrated:
Allah created Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) from a clay derived from a jewel beneath the Throne. From that clay there flowed an essence, from which He created the clay of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali. From Ali's clay another essence flowed, from which He created our clay. From our clay another essence flowed, from which He created the clay of our followers. Therefore, their hearts long for us, and our hearts are compassionate toward them as a parent is toward a child. We are a source of goodness for them, and they are a source of goodness for us. The Messenger of Allah is the best for us, and we are the best for him.
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Babawayh narrates in Al-Ikmāl, through a reliable chain from Abu Hamza al-Thumali, from Ali ibn al-Husayn (peace be upon him), who said:
"Allah, the Almighty, created Muhammad, Ali, and the eleven Imams as spirits from the Light of His Majesty, dwelling within the radiance of His light before the creation of all beings. They worshipped Allah, glorified Him, and declared His holiness before creation came into existence. They are the guiding Imams from the family of Muhammad."
It is also narrated through a reliable chain from Al-Mufaddal ibn Umar, who said that Ja'far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said:
"Allah, Blessed and Exalted, created fourteen lights fourteen thousand years before He created creation. These were our spirits."
He was asked:
"O son of the Messenger of Allah, who are these fourteen?"
He replied:
"Muhammad, Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, Husayn, and the Imams from the descendants of Husayn. The last of them is the Qa'im (may Allah hasten his reappearance), who will rise after his occultation, kill the Dajjal (the False Messiah), and purify the earth from every form of oppression and injustice."
