Surround yourself with pleasant scents
2:15:59 2025-02-18 1716

Here's a simple way to make yourself feel better. Air out your home, bring in some fragrant flowers, and make your home smell good. You'll feel the effects.

Five hundred years ago, soldiers in Europe used fragrant spices to ease the pain of wounded people. These days, doctors are experimenting with aromatherapy in hospitals, using fragrant scents to help with recovery after surgery.

We can think of bad smells as malicious characters that enter our lives and never leave. If you live with them for a long time, you won't be able to sense them, because they've surrounded you for that long. An old, damp carpet, like any source of bad smell, threatens our senses by not feeling the smell; then we've lost our sense of smell, and we've lost our mind. When there's a bad smell, we relieve ourselves from dealing with something bad.

Smells, on the other hand, as soldiers knew in the 15th century and doctors are discovering again these days, awaken our senses and our mind and remind us, on a subconscious level, of good things. Our senses are constantly working, giving us vague signals about our environment. Smells of goodness arouse surprise and happiness in eight out of ten people, while bad smells arouse disgust and unpleasant reactions.
