Abd Manaf

He was the third grandfather of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). His name was al-Mughira, and his title was “Moon of al-Batha.” He was younger than his brother Abd al-Dar, yet he enjoyed a special status among the people that his brother did not. His motto was piety, calling people to good conduct and maintaining ties of kinship. However, despite the strong position he held, he did not compete with his brother Abd al-Dar for the high offices that his brother occupied.

Leadership belonged to his brother Abd al-Dar, according to the will of their father, Qusayy. However, after the deaths of the two brothers, a dispute and conflict arose between their sons over these positions. After a prolonged struggle, the offices and ranks were divided between them. It was decided that the sons of Abd al-Dar would be responsible for the custodianship of the Kaaba and the leadership of Dar al-Nadwa, while the sons of Abd Manaf would be responsible for providing water to the pilgrims, hosting them, and receiving them. This agreed-upon division remained in effect until the emergence of Islam.
