Many famous sayings and moral aphorisms encourage overlooking, including the saying of Imam Ali (peace be upon him): “Half of the wise man is his tolerance, and the other half is overlooking.”
What is the meaning of overlooking?
Deliberately not paying attention to an annoying matter, turning a blind eye to the insult that someone intends towards us, and pretending not to know about the insult or provocative behavior that the offensive person directs at us, is overlooking.
It stems from strength of character, self-confidence, and farsightedness...
The overlooking person refrains from paying attention to trivial matters, which have no value in keeping up with them other than draining energy and wasting time. Perhaps an upright person might do himself a disservice if he stoops down and responds to some fools and people with bad morals, so he honors himself and puts his mind at ease by ignoring their presence and ignoring the words and actions they make, and provocative methods, the goal of which is to tease and belittle the situation...
Perhaps the most important sources of overlooking are:
-Ignore people who direct you with inappropriate blame and unconstructive criticism.
-The spouses must ignore what comes from each other. To enjoy a good life.
-Ignore what comes from your friend or colleague. So that brotherhood lasts and bonds of affection deepen.
-Ignore what is provoked by envious people and your competitors at work, study, or team. So that you do not waste your time.
