Researchers identify the happiest moments of peoples lives

In a new study, researchers have finally determined at what age people are at their happiest, a question that has remained elusive for a long time.

Researchers from the German Sports University in Cologne, the Ruhr University in Bochum, the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and the Universities of Bern and Basel in Switzerland explained, in the research published in the journal Psychological Bulletin, that the focus was on changes in 3 basic components of subjective well-being: life satisfaction, and psychological states. Positive emotional states and negative emotional states.

The researchers concluded in their results that a child’s life satisfaction decreases between the ages of nine and 16 years, but increases slightly until it reaches its peak at the age of 70 years.

Scientists attributed the decline in life satisfaction between the ages of 9 and 16 to the changes that occur to the body during puberty, as well as social transformations during that period.

They noted that life satisfaction declines again until the age of 96, either due to physical illness, poor physical performance, deteriorating health, and diminished social contacts, including the death of loved ones.

They pointed out that positive emotional states decline continuously from the age of nine until the age of 94 years, while negative emotional states witness a slight fluctuation between the ages of nine and 22 years, then decrease until the age of 60, before rising again, according to the study.

The study's authors reached their results after examining trends in personal well-being over the lifespan, based on 443 samples from longitudinal studies, with a total of 460,902 participants.

The new study highlights the need to consider and enhance subjective well-being, in its various components, throughout the lifespan.
